A cookie that’s gluten free, no added sugar, non-GMO, paleo friendly, and keto friendly can’t taste good right? Wrong! Enter Keto Kookie! I’ve been a fan of Keto Kookies for a while now after trying their Peanut Butter Kookies months ago. So I was super excited when they offered to send me a sample pack to try! They sent several packages of each variety including Peanut Butter, Double Chocolate, Snickerdoodle, and Chocolate Chip. As I suspected, they did not disappoint!
peanut butter
The peanut butter are probably my favorite. They’re rich and creamy but a little crumbly and go perfect with a glass of unsweetened vanilla almond milk! I couldn’t taste even a hint of coconut in these even though they’re made with coconut flour.
double chocolate
Double chocolate were next and I ended up making a chocolate sundae out of them! I did so by popping them in the microwave for about 20 seconds and then topping them with sugar free vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and raspberries. It was delicious and felt like I was cheating without the guilt!
snickerdoodle
I tried the snickerdoodle next which was the perfect combination of sweet and cinnamon. You can taste a hint of the coconut flour but not overwhelmingly so if you’re not a huge fan of coconut like me. They were so incredibly filling that I ate them as my breakfast one day with a cup of coffee!
chocolate chip
Lastly, the chocolate chip cookies tasted just like I would expect a chocolate chip cookie to taste like. I got a bite of chocolate in every bite, which is always a plus! They do have the cooling effect that some people experience from baked goods made with erythritol (think the way your tongue feels cool after eating peppermint) but it’s not nearly as pronounced as it could be since they use a blend of sweeteners. I am one of those people that experience the cooling effect and it wasn’t enough to deter me from eating them!
pros
The cookies come in single serving sealed pouches so they’re perfect for grabbing and eating on the go. Each pouch contains 2 cookies which are incredibly satisfying. I actually consistently struggle to finish both in one sitting, they are so filling. Thankfully, they store well by placing it back into the pouch and folding the top over to enjoy later! The cookies are made with top quality ingredients making them soft and fluffy and giving them a great texture. Not at all gritty like I sometimes expect with almond flour baked items.
cons
They are on the expensive side but that tends to be the norm with specialty food items and given the cost of their high quality ingredients, it’s to be expected. The nice thing is, they are generously sized and at 2 cookies per serving, I find it difficult to eat an entire serving at once so I end up with double the servings! Plus, since they come in individual serving pouches, they stay fresh so you can take your time eating them and stretch your dollar!
While they are only 1.4g net carbs per Kookie (3g net carbs per serving), you can still go overboard on them so don’t forget moderation is key! I wouldn’t recommend eating them in the first month or so of starting keto and then once you do, have them as an occasional treat instead of an everyday staple.
